Day 1 - Earned $15.00 with AdSense | CTR of 8%
- You're now excited and you now believe that you're finally beginning to earn big money with AdSense.
- Also, with a CTR of around 8% you're thinking that you've finally mastered the AdSense program.
Day 2 - Earned $2.89 with AdSense | CTR of 1.2%.
"Why do AdSense earnings fluctuate? It's freakin' frustrating!"
- You were so happy one day and the next day you became extremely frustrated.
- The layout of your site and your AdSense ads were exactly the same both days in a row, so why did your earnings and your CTR drop?
Less traffic means Lower earnings
Traffic Spike - Maybe you had a traffic spike. You've earned a good amount of money during that spike, but after it, your earnings went back to just a little bit above normal due to increased popularity.
Traffic spikes and fluctuating Adsense earnings are not uncommon.
However, a fluctuating CTR is.
Stable traffic, but unstable CTR
This issue is actually a little more difficult to understand. However, it all has to do with how your page is presented to certain individuals and how deep these individuals are willing to search to find what they're looking for.
Common reasons to varying Click-Thru Rate
- Clicking more ads Today's audience didn't feel that you answered all of their questions in the post that they read. To find more, they clicked an ad.
- Clicking less ads Today's audience received all that they needed from your content and didn't feel the need to click anywhere including your ads to get more information.
- Relevant Ads You had a lot of views on an individual page today. The AdSense ads were quite relevant to the content you've provided on that page.
- Irrelevant Ads A lot of your views were on pages that weren't very relevant to your AdSense ads.
- Organic Traffic Spike Although your traffic is steady, maybe you've had a huge spike in organic traffic today. This spike greatly increased your AdSense earnings.
- Traffic Exchange Traffic Spike Organic traffic is low, but traffic exchange program traffic is high. Although you shouldn't be using traffic exchange programs with AdSense anyway, this is another common reason for a lower CTR.
- Traffic enjoyed your ads For some reason, today's traffic simply enjoyed your AdSense colors and placement. Today's audience simply clicked more adverts today.
- Traffic hated your ads Today's audience wasn't as generous. They didn't click any of your ads. In fact, they bounced right out of your page when they saw your first ad.
Earning consistent AdSense money
If you want to make consistent money with AdSense you need to first understand that it's nearly impossible to do so for your sites traffic may often also fluctuate. However, consistently receiving the same CTR or a similar CTR everyday is far more realistic.
How to consistently get the same AdSense CTR
- Make sure that you're following all of the "Good CTR" tips above, but note that some of them are out of your control.
- Always display AdSense relevant ads.
- Follow these AdSense Tips to make sure you're doing everything in your power to make the best money you can with AdSense.
Inconsistent AdSense earnings are common
Even if you do follow all of the tips above, don't be surprised if your earnings are still a little bit inconsistent. Remember that you will always have good and bad days with AdSense.
The best thing that you can do for yourself to make your bad days not so bad is to simply gain more organic traffic to your blog. I recommend that you learn how to get high page rank backlinks to increase your organic traffic.

very true i think my traffic fluctuation has to do with google being dick heads and showing a different site on different days like if u have a site that's a lot like some else's they mite split up the days but that's just a theory one of my sites is the first site when u search for that key word the very first one but my site will go from 6 visitors to 300 visitors every other day this is just a theory i could also be going crazy too that's always a possibility lol hey u wanna make a deal i can get you a a message to 3300 people totally legit for an ad on your site for my site tell me what you think but do it in my email so i know what u said!
CheckMEout - I've never heard of organic traffic being this inconsistent. As for your deal, I appreciate your offer, but I am not much into giving out spam.
Interesting thoughts about different types of traffic impacting with the adsanse earnings.
It seams logic to me that it works that way, but it still feels very frustrating I must say :)
Thanks for kick ass information!

Thanks Thomas - I think we're in the same AdSense boat. Actually, I think everyone is. Even the gurus can't always be consistent with their earnings.
