Interview with Blog Pro - Blogger Noob
First off, I would like to say that it's such a great honor to be interviewing one of the better respected bloggers around the net. I'm not feeding you any garbage either. When I sent BloggerNoob the email, I never thought he'd even think to do an interview with me. It turns out I was wrong.

Throughout this interview, you will learn how BloggerNoob became so successful on the web. Not only that, you will gain useful knowledge that you can also use to become a successful blogger. This is one of the hottest interviews, if not hottest interview, you will find on the web with a Professional Blogger

TRAFFIC INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Video Blogging Tips
I see that BloggerNoob's alexa rating is in the one hundred thousands. With this being said, you must get a lot of traffic. How many views do you get to your site daily and monthly? Where do most of your views come from? Entrecard, Search Engines, or other things?

BloggerNoob
i actually fell a lot in the alexa rank. bloggernoob used to be around 55k alexa. But alexa changed it's algorithm a few months ago. hoping to get it below 100k soon. i get between 400-800 daily visits. monthly, hmm, around 18k. Most of my traffic is via referrals. Entrecard is good, but it's not my only referral. blogcatalog, mybloglog, digitalpoint, sitepoint, all send some nice traffic. i also have a lot small sites that send me a few clicks each. i get aroun 25 percent of my traffic from google. and around 20 percent of my traffic comes from direct hits.

VideoBloggingTips
How important do you think the use of Entrecard is to socialize with others and get inbound links to your website? Do you use other sites like entrecard to gain good amounts of traffic?

BloggerNoob
hmm. entrecard is bad for socializing and getting inbound links. it's just good for flash traffic. entrecarder drop and run. it's not quality traffic, but still, traffic is always a good thing. I've dabbled with spottt, blugrush, etc, but they all suck. and it's usually not good to have too many widgets on your side bar. slows down your site. i got rid of all of those except entrecard.

VideoBloggingTips

I did some research about your site BloggerNoob, and realized that it has over 11,000 inbound links. Where did they all come from? Digg, Stumbleupon, BlogRolls? How long did it take you to get these links? Did you work for them, or were they naturally built overtime?

BloggerNoob
If you check my archives, you'll notice a lot of posts. I think being busy posting and networking helps out in the links department. And as your site going up in the ranks, it's easier to trade links. instead of asking for links, people come to you. I fiddled with digg for a bit, but not my bag of chips. stumble is good for short bursts of traffic, but not for links. the best way is to write often and write honest. people like honest. also helps if you can squeeze in some humor. Oh yeah, how could i forget. do some contests. that'll get you links fast. ;)

MONEY MAKING QUESTIONS

VideoBloggingTips
With all that traffic to your site, how do you make all of your money? I don't see any AdSense on your page, but you're obviously getting paid right? Where's the dough come from and what's an estimate to how much you make monthly on BloggerNoob alone?

BloggerNoob
adsense doesn't work on MMO blogs. i think that's the biggest misconception that noobies have. adsense works on sites that get a lot of non web savvy traffic. search engine traffic would be best. mmo blog readers are other bloggers. so they never click on adsense ads. gotta know your audience if you want to make money. most of my income comes from paid plugs and affiliate commissions. recently, i've been upping my private ad sales. i'm hoping to do less paid plugs when my private ad sales increase a bit more. well i made around 10k during 7 months of blogging.

VideoBloggingTips
If you make over minimum wage blogging, how long did it take you to do so? Is it realistic to say that some bloggers may be able to turn professional and quit their day job if they make as much as you do?

BloggerNoob
I personally do not think it's possible. Making full time income solely from blogging is really hard. If you were do invest some cash and set up a lot of different types of websites, then full time income is possible. But if you think you're going to pay the bill with one blog, you better wake up and smell the coffee. The way i see it, blogging is kinda like acting. Both have low barrier of entry. Both types of people are dreamers. Most never make anything of it. Becoming rich with your blog is about as realistic as me winning an emmy award.

VideoBloggingTips
I was reading a post at your site about how you can make 100 dollars a day blogging. In order to accomplish this task, you have to make 20 blogs, and each blog has to make 5 dollars a day. With this being said, is it possible to be successful and make over minimum wage with just one blog, or do you have to have multiple blogs to accomplish this task?

BloggerNoob
It's possbile to make a lot of money with just one blog. Sure of course. But, only a few people are able to do it. I don't think i could ever turn bloggernoob into a 4k/month blog. So i'd rather focus on spreading it around with other sites that require less maintanence. If i could set up 100 sites, i would. There are some sites that require no updates and make 20-40 dollars a day. I haven't been able to do it with any of my niche sites, but i know quite a few people who have. They don't even bother with blogging because it's so time consuming. I do it cause it's my baby. I started with online stuff because of my blog. So i want to keep it going.

PAGE RANK INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

VideoBloggingTips
How do you get a page rank? I see that you have one. Obviously, you have had your blog for a long time. I have heard some people have gotten a page rank in as little as 4 weeks. Is this possible? How long did it take you?

BloggerNoob
I'll be honest with you. I don't know how PR works. I know that it has something to do with back links, but that's it. But u want to know a secret? None of the SEO experts know anything either. You think some nerd living in his mom's basement knows the secret to the all might Google? Not a chance. But there are some tricks. I don't know if PR is gained by those tricks or not. I have to experiment more to be more sure. I'll tell you this tho, i have one site that has PR3. It's been left on the default wordpress theme with zero posts. How did that get PR?

Any Advice?

VideoBloggingTips
For all of our fellow bloggers, do you have any advice or anything you would like to add to this interview? I know you're a very well respected blogger, and I also know that I didn't ask every possible question in the book, so do you have any traffic tips, money making tips, or general tips about blogging?

BloggerNoob
I think the best advice would be to get yourself some shared hosting and domain name. It's the best investment on the net. Other then that, don't pay for shit. Not until you understand how the blogging economy works. Be creative. Don't try to follow your blogging heros. Try to be original. I know it's hard to, but that's the only way to break away from the pack. There are tens of thousands of blogs just like yours, you have to stand out. That's what internet marketing is. Simple in theory, yet extremely difficult to carry out.

Top 10 Items, things, ideas blogs need for Success.

Top 10 Items, things, ideas blogs need for Success.

What do you think a blogger needs to know to be successful? For the past 7 months I have been studying blogging and professional blogs around the world. The list before you has been compiled over these last 7 months and it's my belief, that if you check off every item on the list in front of you, you will be a successful blogger and gain respect for that, from viewers and readers around the world.

10 ) Traffic - One of the major things that a blog needs for success is traffic. If your blog doesn't have traffic, then you may as well go and apologize to your ex-boss and get your day job back.
  • For beginners, and even some pros, Entrecard increases traffic and page rank. Traffic now, and page rank overtime.

9 ) Quality back links - One easy way to get traffic is by getting back links to your website. Not only will these valuable links bring traffic, but if you get enough of them, you will see a boost in your page rank.
  • A great way to get back links is by scratching another blogger's back. If you do good for them, then they will likely do good for you. You can also participate in forums and submit your blog to directories to get high quality back links and some extra traffic.

8 ) Miscellaneous Items - All blogs better have a back to home button on every page. They also must have an about, subscribe, and contact page. Also be sure that there is a way to reach your archived posts. You don't need label clouds nor do you need a blog roll, but they do help.
  • You can look at my blog. It checks off all the above items. All professional blogs have these items and if you don't have them, your greatly missing out.

7 ) A creative website banner - You could be the best writer in the world, but if your banner looks like garbage, a lot of people will just bounce right out of your site.
  • To create a nice banner use Photo Shop or Paint Shop Pro. If you don't like these programs or you don't know how to use them then pay some dude with a nice banner 20 dollars to make yours. For goodness sake though, I am sick of the garbage, piece of crud, sloppily put together, banners. If you have a horrible banner, then most people who visit your site will also think your content is also horrible.

6 ) In content impressions - On the other end, you could have the nicest banner in the world, but if your content is all scrunched together nobody will care to read it.
  • If you add line-heights and padding around images and ads, then things will be a lot easier on your reader's eyes.

5 ) A post a day - Do you really want to be a successful blogger and engage your readers? In order for this task to be accomplished, you have to consistently post at least one article a day.
  • Consistently posting an article a day will tell your readers that you're a serious blogger. Just make sure that these posts are also well thought out and not just thrown together like this morning's outfit. Note that you can make a Successful Income with just one blog!

4 ) Contests, Features, and Change - Sites will often get very boring if it's always the same thing. Mix it up.
  • For me, I will later be having some contests to spice things up. You can do this too. Offer 500 Entrecard Credits for a random subscriber or your most loyal viewer. Holding contests is a very easy way to gain back links, viewers, subscribers, and respect.

3 ) In website SEO - You can do all of the above things, but if your only source of traffic is Entrecard, then you have a lot of work to do.
  • The title of your post should match with the web address, the name of your image, and the alternate text of your image. Your image should link to the post that it is in. You should also be sure to make Correct use of heading tags and title tags if you want to be successfully found via search engines.

2 ) Communication - Are you ignoring those precious emails and or comments where the reader is asking you how or why? You my friend, just lost a loyal reader.
  • Any questions that anybody puts on your site means that they are actually interested in what you had to say. Unless, they're just trying to get a back link. Ugh... Show all comments and the readers who post them respect and courtesy by answering any questions that they may have.

The Number 1 tool for blogging success

1 ) A Community + Respect - If you're missing out in this area, which most of you are, you're missing out on your most valuable form of everything. It's not always what you know, it's who you know. Think about it. If I got some guy with a page rank of 10 to link to me, that basically gives me the best credibility and respect that I can possibly receive. That's why I like Video Blogging Tips. It helps with my respect.
  • To build a community, read other blogs in your niche. Post constructive and informative comments after every article you read. If available, post a back link to your website. Continue to read other blogs and gain the creators respect. You will not only make a good friend and gain new ideas, but from a business standpoint, you will gain the respect of others. If your blog has a community of readers that like to discuss your articles, then my friends, you have gained their respect and you will be successful.

Successful Income with just One Blog?

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

I was reading an interesting post over at Blogger Noob today titled, Getting rich by making $5 a day. The post was well written, but it mainly consisted of basic knowledge - common sense. The idea of the article states that if you make 5 dollars a day on one blog and make 19 other blogs that make 5 dollars a day also, then you will be making 100 dollars a day. (20 blogs multiplied by 5 dollars a blog equals 100 dollars a day.) This will only hold true long as you update each and every blog at least once a day that is. It sounds pretty simple, but is it as simple as it actually sounds?

To be a successful blogger you must...

Many people get the idea that that they can be a successful blogger, and bring in a generous amount of income by only writing one post a day, and leaving it at that. No offense, but if you think like this, you're already way behind the current generation. Blogging Tips - How many posts a day?

Not only do you have to write a post everyday to be a successful blogger, you also have to
  • Promote your blog or site.
  • Make videos like I do here at Video Blogging Tips.
  • Network with others in your niche.
  • Gain quality back links.
  • Add new features.
  • Join contests.
  • Submit your site to directories.
  • Gain readers.
    • Gain respect of your readers.
And the list goes on and on. Sure, you could be making 100 dollars a day with 20 different blogs, but why, when you could work really hard on one, two, or three blogs and actually provide true, high quality, well processed content?

Blogger Noob. I love your site. But your trick sounds like a way to attempt to make money by throwing up cruddy content on a million different cruddy sites. No offense.

However, if you're still interested in pursuing this method to make more money online check out my post about managing multiple blogs.

Blogging Tips - How many posts a day?

Monday, June 16, 2008

How many blog posts do you do a day? I know that some people do as many as 10, and others do as little as 1. So what do you think is a good number to go by? When deciding how many posts you want to do every day, you should probably be thinking about how much time and effort you're willing to put into each post. If you do too many posts, your post will likely be sloppy and thrown together. For this, you lose loyal readers. If you do too little posts, you'll never be found on google. For this, you'll never gain any readers. It's probably killing you as much as it does me when deciding how many posts to do daily. How many posts do you think bloggers should be doing every day?

Quantity over Quality

Now is when you truly have some choices to make. Having quantity over quality is a positive when it comes to search engines. The more you post, the more frequently you will be found. However, we also should know that the more you post, and the more these posts are just thrown together, the more you'll lose your readership. Ex:
Video Blogging Tips is that of a professional style of website. I should only do about 1 quality post a day. However, my site Celebrity News Polls needs updates a few times throughout the day to keep people up to date on their celebrity news.

Quality over Quantity

Having quality override quantity is another no no. Sure, you're keeping your readers. On the other hand though, you're probably not getting any traffic to your site because you're not doing enough posts every day. Thus, you probably have very little readers anyway.

Balancing quality and quantity for daily posts.

If you can learn to balance the quality of your posts, with the amount of posts that you do everyday, you will likely be a successful and less stressed out Blogger. I personally do 1-2 posts a day on this blog. That's ok, but I would really like to keep it at 2 posts a day as this would up my chances at being found on google more often. How many posts a day do you think is a good idea? For beginners? For professionals? For hardcore bloggers? Is there a certain number to go by? Leave your comments and vote on the poll on the right side of my site, left navigation. Also be sure to check out if it's possible to have a successful income with just one blog.

Correct use of heading tags

Sunday, June 08, 2008

Using your heading tags correctly can be the difference between being found on google and other search engines and not being found at all. Today, I want to show you the correct use of your heading tags. Believe it or not, there is a right and a wrong way to use these tags. If used correctly, heading tags can be your best friend.

Heading tags outline upcoming information.

Many people have the idea that heading tags should be used for keyword stuffing, otherwise known as having poor SEO and web design skills. In reality, heading tags should be used to tell people what's to come in that website, post, sidebar navigation, and or paragraph. For example. My website is titled, "Video Blogging Tips." Since this is the name of my website and it outlines what my site is about it should be in a h1 heading tag. You follow?

Putting heading tags to correct use.

Now that you know that the title of your website should go in the h1 tag, what do you do with the h2, h3, and h4 tags? Here is the basic idea. h1 heading tags - H1 heading tags should be used around the title of your website. For they are the first and most important words on your site. There should only be one h1 heading tag throughout your entire website. h2 heading tags - H2 heading tags should used around the post title's of your website. These are usually titles of articles you have written. There can be as many h2 tags as you want throughout your site, but be sure to limit them to being just around the post title's of your website. h3 heading tags - H3 heading tags generally go around each category of your sidebar's navigation. If you look at my sidebar, all the words that are written in white text with the blue background are surrounded by h3 heading tags. There can be as many h3 tags as you want throughout your site, but, like the h2 tags, you should be sure to limit them to just being around the sidebar category titles. h4 heading tags - H4 tags are seldom used. I personally don't use them as that would create a mess of heading tags on my page. Instead, I recommend using bold tags like I use in posts, to separate paragraph from paragraph. Update: I have recently decided to use the h4 tags. I needed to make sub categories of sub categories in some of my post's articles. With that being said, the title of my posts are in h2 tags, the sub categories in my posts are in h3 tags and the sidebar navigation categories are in h4 tags.

Using heading tags correctly can make you.

In the end, heading tags are really important. They can really be the difference in your success. Obviously, this isn't completely true as, in reality, content is king. Then again, it never hurts to get a little boost from using heading tags correctly. If you're a blogger user, like me, I have a post written specifically for you on optimizing your heading tags for blogger. The post is titled, "SEO Tips - Heading Tags and Blogger." As for everybody else, if you use the tips provided in the article you have just read, your heading tags will be put to correct use and your ranking in google will surely rise.
