I've been getting a lot of responses regarding my whey protein weight gain article. I still do not believe people are understanding how much protein they really need to consume per day.
How much Protein should I consume if I am a bodybuilder
If you're a bodybuilder then you obviously need a little more than your average Joe. According to the book called Understanding Nutrition, a body builder or somebody who is trying to build muscle should actually intake about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.
Example: If you weigh 140 pounds you'll need 140 grams of protein.
How much Protein should I intake if I am the average Joe?
If you're the average Joe, you really don't need too much protein. It's recommended that you intake a little less than half of your body weight in grams for your protein intake.
Example: If you weigh 140 pounds you'll need 50 - 70 grams of protein.
Too much protein turns to fat!
Don't be the guy that's drinks 15 protein shakes per day. Trust me, unless you're a truck or a tank you really don't need it. If anything, you're killing your kidneys and like I said, you're putting on extra fat.
