I was actually studying this in my nutrition class this year and found it quite interesting. According to my teacher and according to my nutrition book, whey protein is actually a byproduct of cheese.
For some reason, whey is seen very negatively by many of the "natural eaters." However, I used whey protein for the two years that I was doing bodybuilding and I found nothing wrong with it. Whey protein isn't bad as long as you don't consume too much of it.
