Whey Protein weight gain

If you're trying to gain weight, my guess is that you've probably heard of the "eat protein to gain weight trick." You'll see all of the big bodybuilders drinking Muscle Milk or drinking their Whey Protein so you probably think to yourself

"If I want to be like that guy, then I need to drink protein shakes too!"

The problem with this is in the statement itself. Protein, specifically Whey Protein (because it's the most commonly used stuff) to gain weight is often taken way too far out of context.

Common Mistake

Once people here about this protein solution they often get the mindset that protein is literally everything. I've been there before so don't feel bad if you are. But these people can only think of one thing:

"I need protein and loads of it. I need eggs. I need bacon. I need milk. I need WHEY PROTEIN!"

People who have this mindset begin to mindlessly eat everything that contains protein. Peanut Butter, turkey, chicken, and WHEY PROTEIN. Sometimes people decide to go with the soy protein route, but again, it's common that people usually just drink whey.

Too much protein

Kidney Stones + Dehydration

When people begin to eat too much protein their body's kidneys begin to work harder and harder to get rid of the stuff. It's said that too much protein is even linked to kidney stones and dehydration, but I don't believe anything is proven. It is important to note that when you are taking whey protein supplements -- that it's important that you drink a gallon or more of water a day.

Extra protein stores as fat

Too much of anything is a bad thing. If you eat too much protein, your body will actually begin to store it as fat. Nobody wants that. Even those of you that are trying to gain weight.

Good amount of protein to gain muscle mass

If you're really looking to use Whey Protein or you're increasing your protein intake in other ways to gain weight, then this is a good rule of thumb to go by:

For each pound that you weigh, eat one gram of protein. Example: If your weight is 150 pounds then eat 150 grams of protein.

If you follow this rule, you will get in the correct amount of protein for bodybuilding and proper weight gain. Anything more is a waste of your time and your money.

if you want people to take your seriously at all, you should probably get a course in english. "Once people here about this protein solution", you needed to use "hear", retard. I didn't read all of your article, but you are wrong about everything that I did read.

don;t listen to the post above, the guy is a douche. i found this article interesting, but i want to point out that hardgainers probably WOULD like to have the extra fat from protein, rather than not

I think you should check your sources for excess protein. Your body does NOT store excess protein as fat. It is processed through the kidneys. Check any medical site, or human physiology site.

yes, yes it is. I know from experience, when i was taking protein supplements, my parents were noticing a decrease in size "down there". I stopped taking them and started smashing chicken parmas from lapas in waterg's, which i found gave me the ultimate gains and size. As a rule of thumb, you should eat at least one to two parmas a week followed by some pc & c with optional ct.
This will make you MASSIVE!
