John C. Odom

John C. Odom died on November 5th, 2008 due to an accidental overdose of numerous drugs. Once a right-handed prospect for the San Francisco Giants, Odom will be remembered for his drive, respect, and heart on and off of the field.

John C. Odom trade bat

But why did John C. Odom overdose on this horrific day? The trade took place between the Leredo Broncos of the United League and the Calgary Vipers of the Independent Golden League on May 20th. The deal of the trade was a simple John C. Odom for 10 maple bats. That's right. The kid was traded for $665.00 worth of maple baseball bats. Unbelievable.

It's sad to see a joke lead to an ultimate death. My prayers go out to the families involved. This one definitely hit home. John C. Odom played for the Salem, Oregon Volcanoes in 2006. From the Volcanoes, Odom went to the Calgary Vipers, where he was then traded for the 10 baseball bats to the Laredo Broncos.
