We all remember the idiotic parents who became famous for their balloon boy hoax. In good news today, they've been sentenced to serve some time in jail... They better not receive any special treatments for being 'famous.'
According to CSMonitor, Richard Heene will go to jail for 3 months, while his wife Mayumi will go for 2/3 of a month. I've also heard that they will have to pay a fine of around $40,000, as direct results of police and military attempting to 'rescue' their boy.
I really hope the 15 minutes of fame was worth the time. These guys are going to get eaten up in jail. Talk about a comedy-story for the prisoners. They're going to give these guys so much garbage.
In the mean time, I haven't heard about what will happen to the balloon boy himself. His parents have been sentenced, and are to now do their time. But what about their kid? Where does he go?
Overall, this was a stupid - stupid - stupid stunt. If you want to get famous, make a Youtube video, lay back, and watch your video get millions of views. It's not that difficult. In fact, I had a video on Youtube that had 100,000 + views.
Things like this are pretty funny, but at the same time, remember the serious efforts police and military put in to saving a life. When it's a prank, someone else who was truely in need of help, could've been saved. Stuff like this simply pisses me off. I'm glad the balloon boy parents were sentenced. Hopefully their kid gets placed in good hands.

Yes, I'm glad that there were some "real" consequences for these two...that someone finally stood up and said, "You know what? We're getting a little tired of this kind of nonsense." But I can't help but wonder (and this is NO defense of the 'parents') how much of this is backlash to smooth over the fact that people did, in fact, get quite wrapped up in the events, even though there were no events to speak of. If we're so tired of the "Don't taze me bro"s of the nation, how did this event reach so many people in such a short amount of time? We, as a nation, have developed such a habit of chasing every bit of gossip and drama tossed our way...I wonder if we felt a bit caught with our pants down on this? What these two 'parents' did was stupid, selfish, irresponsible, and reprehensible...and we followed every minute of it as a nation. Perhaps when it literally amounted to nothing, we felt a bit of embarassment. However, while Richard and Mayumi will serve jail time and hopefully learn a bit from their behavior...we, as a nation, will skulk back to precisely where we were and wait impatiently for the next jackass to make a fool of him or her self in front of the entire world.
